Beach Safety

Please pay close attention to the Flag Warning Systems posted throughout the Beaches of South Walton County.  The Walton County Fire District changes the warning flags according to water conditions.  Please follow the water safety rules.  Use the buddy system.  Do not leave children unattended.  If you cannot swim, stay close to the shore, not entering water above the knees.  Be aware that the clear Gulf waters may be very deep, even though you can see the bottom.  The flag warning system provides a standard structure for swimmers to follow:

Green = conditions are favorable for swimming, exercise caution
Yellow = use extreme caution while swimming or wadding
Red = hazardous conditions, swim at your own risk
Double Red = DANGER, water is closed
Purple = marine pests in water.

Beach goers can check which flags are flying by logging onto www.swfd.org.  Those entering the water on a double-red flag can be assessed a fine.

Lifeguards are stationed at regional public beach accesses in Walton County, which are designated by parking facilities and restrooms.  Lifeguards are positioned from mid-March - September and are present at the following beaches along 30A:

Inlet Beach, which is east of Rosemary Beach
Santa Clara, approx. 1-mile east of 395 at Bramble Grove Place
Gulf View Heights, which is close to 83
Ed Walline, directly south of 393
Dune Allen, a few miles west of 393
